“It’s so genius that it either sucks or it’s genius.” That’s Courtney Love’s preemptive review of the “99 Problems” cover she performed at a (generally well-received) Sundance show on Monday night. While no one can say she isn’t badass enough to make a Jay-Z song her own, there are certainly some bizarre moments — notably hearing phrases like “my black ass” and “I’m African” come out the Hole frontwoman’s mouth. It was Love herself who tweeted the lo-fi video above. We’ll let you judge for yourself whether the word it brings to mind is closer to “genius” or “sucks.”
