As a companion piece to the British Film Institute’s “Sci-Fi: Days of Fear and Wonder“, a two-month celebration of all things sci-fi, Ignition Creative London has released a new, recut trailer for Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey, and it’s great.
Aside from just being beautiful in general, the trailer eschews the original’s montage of silent shots in favor of a somewhat more traditional, more thrilling two-minute clip, full of gorgeous shots and HAL 9000 voiceovers paired with so many of Alex North’s soundtrack crescendos. Also, still lots of trippy, human hamster wheel running.
Not much is happening Stateside for the BFI event, but if you happen to be in Los Angeles on November 2, there will be a matinee showing of the film there. For reference, the original trailer is here. Still intriguing, but obviously not suited to modern, ADHD-addled tastes.
