Watch the Intense Trailer for ‘Game of Thrones’ Season Three: Death is Coming

Winter came, but March is coming. March 31, to be exact. An all new season of HBO’s Game of Thrones awaits us. After spotting a tantalizing poster on EW yesterday that featured the shadow of a flying dragon (pictured below), we couldn’t wait to set eyes on the season three trailer that premiered during Jimmy Kimmel Live last night.

We were hoping to catch another glimpse of the mythical beast, and it looks like Khaleesi’s babies are all grown up. Set to the MS MR’s “Bones,” the intense trailer cuts right to the chase: “Death is coming for everyone and everything.” Survivors from season two make appearances, and new characters like Brynden “The Blackfish” Tully (Clive Russell) pop up. We’d feel a lot better if everyone in the North would wear a scarf or something, but Kristofer Hivju’s Tormund Giantsbane climbs the ice like it ain’t no thing.

Part three in the George R.R. Martin saga will be based roughly on the first half of the novel A Storm of Swords, which finds the Kingdoms of Westeros still at war. The major houses fight to keep their crowns, and Daenerys Targaryen leads the way back to Pentos to rule the throne. Also, dragons! Here’s what showrunner David Benioff had to say about two epic scenes in the upcoming season that inspired the entire series adaptation:

“From the beginning we’d always prayed we’d get to season three at least because, you know, two of our favorite scenes from the entire saga are in season three… The scene that we cannot mention. I just remember reading the book before we’d even written the pilot and thinking, ‘Oh, my god, we’ve got to get this. We’ve got to get this show to happen because if we can make this scene work, it’s gonna be one of the greatest things ever on television or film.'”

Color us ridiculously excited. Look for new faces like the amazing Diana Rigg, Coldplay’s Will Champion (in a cameo), wonderful character actor Ciarán Hinds (Rome, There Will Be Blood), and many more when Game of Thrones premieres next month.
