Watch the Trailer for Richard Linklater’s Film That Took 12 Years to Shoot, ‘Boyhood’

Captured over a 12-year period, Richard Linklater’s Boyhood started shooting when star Ellar Coltrane (playing Mason) was just seven years old. Every year, the cast (including Linklater muse Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette) would go before the cameras to film again, chronicling young Coltrane’s growing up. “It’s a little bit like timelapse photography of a human being,” star Hawke explained last year. You can read more about the production in our Sundance blog from January. The film finally has a trailer, where you can see how Coltrane sprouts from a boy to a man, year by year, navigating a path through adolescence.
