We’re Taking TCM’s Free Online Film Noir Class. Wanna Be in Our Study Group?

Jane Greer and Robert Mitchum in "Out of the Past"

Last week, we told you about “Into the Darkness: Investigating Film Noir,” an upcoming (free!) online summer course from the Canvas Network. Defined as “a flexible, multimedia investigation and celebration of film noir,” it’s presented by Turner Classic Movies (who are showing a metric ton of noir classics this Summer). And this became one of our most-shared news items of the week, indicating we’re not the only ones who think this sounds like movie geeks’ summer paradise.

So I, Jason Bailey, your Flavorwire film editor, am going to take the class—and I want you to take it with me. It’s totally free (you don’t even have to be a TCM subscriber, though why would you not be), the course work is light and flexible, and most importantly, it’s an opportunity to watch a lot of great old movies and talk about them. And we’ll do the latter right here—on alternating Monday mornings (starting June 8), I’ll post an update for our “study group,” covering what we’ve watched and discussed, and continuing that discussion in the comments.

The class starts Monday, June 1. You can enroll here. Are you in?
