What do Courtney Love and James Iha have in common? Well, besides being ’90s alt-rock survivors, both have had long, fraught relationships with Billy Corgan. (They also shared a band mate, Melissa Auf der Maur, but we digress.) So we can’t help but wonder what the Great Pumpkin might say about their collaboration on Love’s… Read More

10 Famous Musicians’ Geeky Hobbies
We tend to think of musicians as being cooler than us. And while that may be true, they’re also often bigger geeks than we would imagine. Did you know, for instance, that the man who was Ziggy Stardust is always down for a good chess match? Or that Lily Allen makes delightful cushions? Can you guess which hip-hop pioneer owns 5,000 souvenir mugs? Click through to read all about famous rock stars’ nerdy obsessions — and find out which international pop star plays Scrabble with Salman… Read More
A Selection of Great Duets We’d Love to See
As we’ve written here in the past, the duet is an inexact science — some of the collaborations that you’d think should have been roaring successes proved to be disastrous, and vice versa. We’re still on the fence as to which group the new St. Vincent/David Byrne collaboration Love This Giant, which is out today, falls into — but either way, the fact that two of our favorite artists have made a whole record together got us thinking about other dream duets we’d love to see. We’ve started the discussion with a bunch of suggestions. Who would you like to see in the studio together? … Read More
Wonderful Photographs of Famous People Snapped By Their Famous Friends
It’s well known that famous people often run in packs (rat, brat), and we’ve even heard rumors that they do normal things like hang out and take pictures of their friends. Since we’re obsessed with the ephemera of pop culture, we spent some time tracking down a few of those snapshots, whether staged or candid, rare or widely recognized, taken by everyone from Truman Capote to Lady Gaga. Click through to see our gallery of photographs of famous people snapped by their famous friends, and you may just begin evaluating your own photo albums for potential stars after you’re through. … Read More

1. “You do know the song is about my Vagina right? ‘Throw down your umbilical noose so i can climb right back,’ umm… On top of which some of the lyrics about my vagina I contributed. So umm next time you sing it, think about my vagina will you?” — Courtney Love tweeted… Read More
What’s On at Flavorpill: The Links That Made the Rounds In Our Office

‘And She’s Not Even Pretty’: The Art of Courtney Love
You already know whether you’re going to like Courtney Love’s visual art. This is not to say that And She’s Not Even Pretty, the first-ever exhibition of her drawings, at New York’s Fred Torres Collaborations, is a celebrity vanity project with no value beyond the name attached to it — although some will inevitably judge it as such. What I mean is that Love’s art is exactly like her music; either you love it for its unflinching expression of all-out female id-ego-superego chaos or you hate it for being the self-involved ramblings of an out-of-control woman who can’t decide whether fame is a chronic illness or the only worthy goal in life. … Read More

Watch Mid-’90s-Era Hole Reunite on Stage in NYC
Last night, the afterparty for the premiere of Hit So Hard, a documentary about former Hole drummer Patty Schemel, was held at Public Assembly in Brooklyn. As the Village Voice reports, the musical entertainment for the evening was Trinity Jam, a band comprised of Schemel, bassist Melissa Auf Der Maur and guitarist Eric Erlandson — that is, everyone from the mid-’90s lineup of Hole except for Courtney Love. But in a twist of fate, Love happened to be in New York last night, and the singer came onstage to join her old comrades for the first time in fifteen years, effectively reuniting the cult rock band for two songs: “Miss World” and “Over the Edge.” Click through to watch video from the momentous occasion, and let us know if you’d welcome a Hole reboot — or are totally over everything Courtney Love — in the comments. … Read More
