As those of you currently celebrating the long weekend know, today is Martin Luther King Day. While our friends over at Billboard decided to pull together a list of 10 songs honoring MLK to celebrate his memory, we went the visual route, and used the search term “dream” to scour Flickr. Click through to check out 10 of the most inspiring photographs that we found.

Welcome to the latest edition of Flickr Found Photo Fridays. Due to the massive volcanic ash cloud that’s covering Europe and preventing air travel, we decided to check out what the Flickr photogs had in store for us when we searched the archives using a term as versatile as “plume.” As always, what we found isn’t quite what we expected. In fact, we think this roundup might be the most eclectic yet. Check it out after the jump.

‘Twas the epithet heard ’round the world, when even our fine nation’s president agreed that Kanye West was being a “jackass” by interrupting widdle ole Taylor Swift onstage at the VMAs. Artificial drama aside (we know, New York Times, we should be much more concerned about health care than Lady Gaga‘s gender, the architectural taste of Prince Charles, or Perez Hilton vs. minor pop star of the week), we’re using this week’s keyword as a fearless guide into the depths of Flickr. That’s right, it’s Found Photo Friday, and we’re taking a donkey ride. Read More »
This installment of Found Photo Fridays comes bearing the bad news that our nation’s unemployment rate has reached 9.7 percent, up from 9.4 percent in July. While daytime TV has its charms, we find that funemployment isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, and more specifically, isn’t actually fun at all. After the jump, find Flickr-provided visual depictions of our national shit-uation. Wishing you greener pastures in September… Read More »
When Senator Ted Kennedy died Tuesday night, some say Camelot went with him. The moniker for King Arthur and the knights of the round table was originally applied to the Kennedy family by Jackie Kennedy herself soon after JFK’s death. While we can’t say whether Camelot will live on, we can address these events the only way we know how: by typing “Camelot” into Flickr and seeing what turns up. Join us for a special Found Photo Friday in memorium of Ted Kennedy. Read More »
On Found Photo Fridays, we embark on an odyssey through the depths of Flickr with just our wits and one search term to guide us. Today we wondered what would happen if we Flickr-searched the name of a competing photo-sharing site (of sorts). Why, it would be like Googling “Yahoo”! Internet worlds collide! Since we already determined what kind of Facebook user you are, after the jump we bring you Facebook as filtered through Flickr. Read More »
On Found Photo Fridays, we embark on an odyssey through the depths of Flickr with just our wits and one search term to guide us. The term du jour was “Mad Men.” In case you haven’t noticed, we’re really looking forward to Sunday’s season premiere. Our search yielded surprisingly diverse results, from ’60s-inspired montages to costume theme days at offices. Check them out after the jump. Read More »
It’s time for another edition of Found Photo Fridays, this week inspired by Discovery Channel’s Shark Week and some words of wisdom from 30 Rock‘s Tracy Jordan: “here’s some advice I wish I woulda got when I was your age: Live every week like it’s Shark Week.” Check out our photo set — consisting of only the best images we found by typing “sharks” into Flickr — and behold Lego sharks, shark cupcakes, baby sharks and more. In today’s installment of Found Photo Fridays, we ponder our very being. Usually when it’s time to do this feature, we type something relatively concrete like “bowling” or “soda” into the box. But today we wanted to be a little more conceptual, and we thought, existential. Because idiot savant-itude only gets one so far, our only recourse was to type “existence” into Flickr. After the jump, existence: distilled down to less than a dozen images. Read More »
We’ve already plugged tonight’s High Rollers event at Brooklyn Bowl, but we think its awesomeness merits one more mention, and this one comes in the form of a bowling-themed Found Photo Friday. You know the drill: we searched “bowling” on Flickr, and the following images were the best ones that came up (provided that they related back to the sport and weren’t just pretty pictures of bowls…which there were actually surprisingly a lot of!). We came up with vintage road signs, Wii bowling, a really cool repair shop, and more. Have a look see, then put on a fresh pair of socks (the better to provide bowling shoe cushioning) and get thee to Brooklyn, New Yorkers. Read More »
