Thanksgiving is for sitting around the table with family and friends, expressing gratitude for things most of us take for granted every other day of the year. But above all, Thanksgiving’s a time for TV, where tempers run as high as oven temperatures. Charred turkey, sibling rivalry, yam-slamming, and sticking a turkey on one’s head; without these key ingredients, no TV Thanksgiving would be complete. Here’s a list of what you’ll need to make your own TV Thanksgiving, at home. … Read More

‘Friends’ Almost Ended Very Differently for Ross and Rachel
Friends fans, can you imagine a world where Ross and Rachel didn’t end up together? As inevitable as that final moment when she shows up at his doorstep seems, it almost didn’t happen. “At first we were like, ‘Well, that just seems so expected,’” producer David Crane recalls in a clip from the new Friends… Read More
Nostalgic, Childlike Drawings of Famous Sitcom Ensembles
German illustrator Angela Dalinger (aka Sandra Angela W.) creates naive-style artworks that are inspired by famous sitcoms like Seinfeld, Who’s the Boss, and The Simpsons. We first spotted her raw, childlike paintings and drawings on Juxtapoz and admired the way they capture the memorable features of our favorite TV stars — like Phoebe Buffay’s broomstick skirt and guitar. We love seeing the coloring lines and exaggerated faces on each figure. Head past the break for a your daily dose of nostalgia, and visit Dalinger’s website and online store to see more of her work. … Read More
10 TV Cliques We’d Like to Hang With
One of the qualities of a good hang-out show is getting to live vicariously through the crazy adventures of a group of friends that are far cooler than we’ll ever be, for their quick-witted banter, complex schemes, unlimited brunch/booze budget, and ability to sleep with one another without getting weird. And because Happy Endings — one of the most underrated hang-out shows on TV, in our opinion — is returning tonight, we decided to pay tribute to some of the most awesome friends in TV history. Is there a clique you would like to hang (or not hang) with? Let us know! … Read More
10 Fictional TV Duos We’d Like to See Team Up Again
This week we heard a delightful bit of news: apparently, Beverly Hills, 90210‘s Kelly and Dylan — um, excuse us, Jennie Garth and Luke Perry — are rejoining forces to develop a new sitcom, currently being shopped around to networks. Could it be a post-spinoff spinoff? Or a whole new show? Whatever it is, we’ll probably watch it. Inspired by this re-coupling of a classic TV pair, we’ve put together a list of fictional TV duos that we’d really like to see team up again, no matter what the project. Come on, you guys. If Kelly and Dylan can be in it for the long haul, so can you. … Read More
A Beautiful Bird’s-Eye View of Famous TV Apartments
We first spotted Iñaki Aliste Lizarralde’s hand-drawn floor plans of fictional living spaces on BuzzFeed and haven’t been able to stop looking at them. The famous TV apartments are rendered with delicate care, depicting all the memorable details of the small screen spaces. The Friends apartment makes an appearance, along with Carrie Bradshaw’s Upper East Side brownstone from Sex and the City. The Big Bang Theory and Frasier (complete with Martin’s awesomely ratty chair) also get nods. Click through to see Lizarralde’s beautiful bird’s-eye view of TV apartments. … Read More
TV’s All-Time Greatest Himbos
Damn those short HBO seasons. This year’s True Blood run seems like it just started, yet we’re now only three days away from the finale. We enjoyed this season a great deal, the Vampire Authority’s internal intrigue providing a welcome break from Sookie Stackhouse’s supernatural love triangle — not to mention a surprisingly insightful commentary on what happens when church and state mingle. But one character whose development has remained fairly unexamined this season is Sookie’s brother, Jason. Originally presented as an empty-headed looker with a womanizing streak, he’s recently turned the himbo stereotype on its head. To celebrate his under-the-radar evolution (and the fact that he’s still sometimes a little too stupid for his own good), we’ve collected a selection of TV’s all-time greatest male bimbos — or “himbos” — most of whom aren’t nearly as multi-dimensional. … Read More
Watch Your Favorite TV Characters Talking About Books
If you’ve been paying attention to this space over the last couple of months, you already know that we’re fascinated by the reading habits of our favorite fictional characters. But what’s better than a simple reading list? A little informed dialogue, of course. Or even a few well-placed snarky comments. Recently, we spotted this excellent clip of The Wire‘s D’Angelo talking about The Great Gatsby over at Open Culture, and it inspired us to round up a few more clips of some of our favorite TV characters waxing poetic about their favorite (or least favorite) books. From simple proclamations of Dr. Seuss’s brilliance to Boardwalk Empire‘s very physical commentary on David Copperfield, we love seeing books we love figure into the drama. Click through to watch — and hey, you just might learn something. … Read More
