Tonight at 8pm, ABC will debut its new series Splash, a “celebrity” diving competition show in which such iconic figures as Kendra Wilkinson, Keshia Knight Pulliam, and Louie Anderson… well, they do dives, and that’s pretty much the show. If you’re anything like us, you may have greeted this description with one question: “Holy moly, is that the stupidest idea for a television program, ever?” To which we laugh and laugh, and then say, “I dunno, maybe.” To be fair, it’s a tough competition; since its inception, television executives have seemed consistently challenged to top each other in creating excruciatingly dumb shows. By now, it seems like everyone in the world has read 50 Shades of Grey (except the people you actually know). Including celebrities, who particularly can’t seem to get enough of reading the thing out loud. We get it — it’s hilarious and oh so scandalous in a completely safe way. But some celebs do a better job than others, and though “better” here is obviously relative and subjective, we’d say that the quality usually comes down to the commitment. ‘Star Trek’ Star George Takei Tells Feuding Fans to Blame ‘Twilight’

There’s always been some serious tension between the Star Trek and Star Wars fan kingdoms, but the USS Enterprise’s Sulu — Mr. George Takei — has found a way to settle the score: blame Twilight instead. “Shut your big wormholes,” his message of peace opens to fans, claiming that they should take aim at Stephenie Meyer’s vampire menace. Sci-fi’s mutual threat and only real problem has ” … no great stories, characters or profound life lessons,” Takei laments. “Gone is any sense of heroism, camaraderie or epic battle. Should We Forgive Tracy Morgan for His Homophobic Rant?

On this slow-news Friday, it seems like the whole Internet is up in arms about Tracy Morgan’s homophobic rant at a stand-up show last night. As audience member Kevin Rogers, who is gay, recounted on Facebook, Morgan — never one to shy away from edgy material — “took it upon himself to mention about how he feels all this gay shit was crazy and that women are a gift from God and that ‘Born this Way’ is bullshit, gay is a choice, and the reason he knows this is exactly because ‘God don’t make no mistakes’ (referring to God not making someone gay cause that would be a mistake).” He went on to cast doubt on the plausibility of lesbianism and the impact of bullying on queer kids. Then, “He said if his son that was gay he better come home and talk to him like a man and not [he mimicked a gay, high pitched voice] or he would pull out a knife and stab that little N (one word I refuse to use) to death.” If anyone can figure out what’s funny about that statement, please be sure to let us know. … Read More
