What’s on at Flavorpill: Links That Made the Rounds in our Office

+

Today at Flavorpill, we wore a White Castle Couch Pouch. We hoped never to cross paths with this drunken, thieving, cross-dressing Tennessee toddler. We checked out MOG’s top 50 albums of 2009 and Ghostly’s 110 favorite albums of the decade. Our hearts were warmed by this YouTube success story. We wondered how Mario landed in a petri dish. Warp? We bought our advance tickets to Avatar after Steven Spielberg gave it his blessing. We dissected the Harry Potter economy. We added some of these books recommended by New Yorker contributors to our must-read list. We were psyched that Michael Jackson’s Captain EO is returning to Disneyland. We felt guilty because we enjoyed these endangered magazine mashups so much. And finally, we said goodbye for the weekend — sitcom-style, natch.

Exclusive: Interview with Friends of Friends Founder Leeor Brown

1

Music marketing guru and impresario Leeor Brown founded the Friends of Friends record label in March of 2009. Friends of Friends Volume 1 features music by Daedelus and Jogger, and a t-shirt designed by husband and wife art-powerhouse, Kozyndan. FoF’s Friends of Friends Volume 2 features tunes by Larytta and Bauchamp, and a shirt by Tatiana Rihs. Flavorpill sat down with Leeor Brown for a Q&A about the Little Label That Could, and the past, present, and future of the music industry. Read More »

Style and Substance: The Ghostly Discovery iPhone App

2

Big news: Today our friends over at Ghostly International are launching the GHOSTLY DISCOVERY iPhone app — a free application available through the iTunes store that allows you to create a personalized streaming radio station out of the Ghostly International and Spectral Sound catalogs (artists like Matthew Dear/Audion, Deastro) based on your musical mood (yellow ghost = energetic, blue = laid back) and style preferences (digital/organic, faster/slower). There are also featured playlists from Ghostly’s friends — sites like RCRDLBL and Lost At E Minor. (We’ll have one up there too soon, we promise.)

img_4300matt

You don’t earn a reputation as one of electronic music’s most versatile artists by limiting your creative output to just one sound — or name for that matter. The whole multiple personalities thing is just one of the reasons why we find Matthew Dear (and Audion… and False…) so intriguing; find out more about this refreshing Renaissance musician in Flavorwire’s interview with him after the jump.
