Tweet to Win a Weber Electric Grill!

3

Have we made you jealous with all the fun we’ve been having in our Grill and Chill series? Good. Now you’ve got a chance to join in on the fun. Our friends at Weber are giving Flavorpill a Q 140 Grill (a retail value of $279) to bestow on the reader who *tweets the wittiest response to the following question @flavorpill: What’s the craziest thing you’ve barbecued?

Current frontrunners include @marpop: “my uncle. honestly. he got a little tipsy (literally) & ended up w/his entire bodice on the grill-he was charred but unharmed,” @SmokeInDaEye: “I’ve grilled the world’s smallest ‘Bacon Explosion’, a 4 inch bacon stuffed, bacon wrapped sausage,” and @zacrivera: “a goat’s head: http://bit.ly/qQTNj.” You’ve got until tomorrow morning to tweet your entry @flavorpill, so get on it!

* Not on Twitter? Drop us a comment below; just remember to limit your response to under 140 characters to keep things fair.

Grill and Chill Pt. 2: Indie Publishers Unite

+

The world of indie media companies is a small, varied, and at times cutthroat one. But that doesn’t mean we can’t all still be friends, and you know, help each other and learn from one another. In that great spirit of Kumbaya, Flavorpill organized an NYC media gathering, inviting top editors, founders, and publishers from indie publications to hang out, drink, grill, and chill.

Brooklyn Based, PSFK, My Open Bar, Chief Mag, WhatsUpNYC, Brownstoner, L Magazine, Gawker, Gothamist, Lost at E Minor, the Foggy Monocle, Not For Tourists, Paper Mag, and more gathered round the grill (a shout out to Weber!) to trade war stories, origin myths, and tales of recent triumph. Thanks to all the folks who made it out; hopefully we all exited with a full stomach, a good buzz, and some excellent new ideas.

1

Welcome to Grill and Chill, a new feature made possible by our friends at Weber*, who gave Flavorpill HQ one of their electric grills for the summer as long as we promised to interview interesting cultural figures and feed them free hot dogs. Read on for an interview with Dia Sokol and Lauren Veloski, the talented filmmakers behind Sorry, Thanks — a quirky film about 20-something relationships that stars Dazed and Confused‘s Wiley Wiggins and mumblecore genius Andrew Bujalski — and if you live in New York, be sure to check out the premiere at BAMcinemaFEST on June 24th.
