10 Politicians and Their Fictional Pop Culture Doppelgängers

Sunday night, viewers of History’s hit miniseries The Bible (haven’t read the book; does the show work as a standalone?) were given their first look at Satan — and several immediately took to Twitter, pointing out what they saw as a marked resemblance to the President. Good ol’ Glenn Beck led the way, tweeting “Anyone else think the Devil in #TheBible Sunday on HIstory (sic) Channel looks exactly like That Guy?” (Beck apparently uses “That Guy” as a substitute for Obama, whose name he refuses to say, because Glenn Beck is a child.) Though the show’s producers have dismissed the connection, we’ve gotta say — he’s kind of a dead ringer. On the other hand, politicians are so ubiquitous that it’s pretty easy to find resemblances in pop culture. Don’t believe us? Here’s a few more examples. … Read More

The 10 Best Stephen King Movies

Tomorrow is the 65th birthday of Mr. Stephen King — yep, the master of pop horror is now a senior citizen — so break out a party hat, have a slice of cake, and douse yourself in pig’s blood. Mr. King’s gradual progression, over the last couple of decades, from genre populist to critical darling has been a joy to watch. But his novels and stories have also provided the groundwork for several genuinely great movies — many of them, surprisingly enough, not even set in the world of the supernatural. After the jump, our picks for the best Stephen King movies to date. … Read More

Oscar’s Most Insane, Illogical Award Choices

This year’s Academy Awards are just around the corner (well, okay, they’re still a week and a half away, so it’s more like around the corner, down a little, second door on the left), and while we can’t help but get a little excited about Hollywood’s big night, we’re also being very careful to keep our expectations in check. We’ve already lamented the many worthwhile films and performances that were unduly snubbed by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences at the nominations phase; when Sunday the 26th rolls around, you can bet the farm that the AMPAS will confound us again by making at least a couple of spectacularly bone-headed choices. There’s a long and storied history of the Oscar simply going to the wrong damn person or movie, countless cases where a peek back at the list of nominees and the eventual winner provokes confusion, rage, or at the very least, a bit of head-scratching. After the jump, we’ve gathered ten of the most egregious examples. … Read More

10 Highly Informative Celebrity How-To Videos

Recently, we discovered a wonderful collaboration between perennial tough-guy Vinnie Jones and The British Heart Foundation, which is airing TV advertisements starring the actor to raise awareness about proper CPR form. Inspired by Jones’s video, we’ve collected a series of informative celebrity how-tos and informational videos, whether funny or serious, produced or off the cuff, on everything from dance moves to changing a tire to proper etiquette.
