“It’s About Class”: Matthew Weiner and ‘Mad Men’s’ Cast on the Show’s Final Episodes

“It’s about the malleability of American culture,” said Mad Men creator, writer, and showrunner Matthew Weiner on Saturday night. Weiner was at a sold-out Alice Tully Hall in Lincoln Center to toast “Mad Men: The End of an Era,” a special panel celebrating the show in its final season. The event was set up like a clip show, with Weiner joined by Jon Hamm, January Jones, Christina Hendricks, and John Slatter. The actors introduced their favorite clips featuring their Mad Men characters — Don Draper, Betty Draper, Joan Holloway, and Roger Sterling, respectively — and reminisced over how these scenes came to be and what they learned from them. It was a night of celebration and remembrance — there was nothing as close to a hint about what will happen when Mad Men‘s final seven episodes start next Sunday on April 5, but still plenty to learn about one of finest shows of our time. … Read More

10 of the Most Awkward and Unfunny ‘SNL’ Hosts

Republican Party presidential hopeful Mitt Romney is currently considering a request from SNL creator Lorne Michaels to host the show. Nearly all candidates have appeared on the comedy series, but Steve Forbes was the last to actually host in 1996 — according to The Hollywood Reporter. SNL writer Jim Downey reminds readers that, “[Romney] was funny on Letterman, giving the Top Ten list,” but we’re still not buying it. Can the former Governor of Massachusetts prove that he’s a human being and not an android? Will he actually get the jokes? Will Jason Sudeikis prove that he can out-Romney even Romney? We prepped ourselves for the possible answers by revisiting some of the NBC series’ worst hosts. Unfunny, awkward, and awful SNL MCs await you past the break, proving that sometimes hot-button hosts just don’t have the funny to make it all work. As always, share your picks below. … Read More

‘Mad Men’ Season 5 Teaser Is All About the Betty

AMC is looking past Betty Draper’s (January Jones) Grace Kelly looks and ladies-who-lunch style to focus on her ice queen attitude for its Mad Men season five teaser trailer. HuffPost TV shared the exclusive clip, which is more of a best-of Betty’s bitchiest moments from past seasons. You get the Mommie Dearest moment with Sally, the disgust for Don, and all the other jaw-clenching, suburban malaise Betty does best. It’s a quick and fun clip that whets your appetite for more admen antics, but as the show segues into the early dawn of feminism, does the video make you wish for a different kind of characterization? Would you be ok with more mad mom for another go-round? Watch the video past the break, head to THR for another clip celebrating Joan Harris (née Holloway), and keep your peepers peeled for the other character shorts making their way online. Mad Men returns March 25. … Read More
