Oh boy. We already have so many conflicting feelings about Jared Leto. He was every girl’s (and many guys’) high-school crush, back in his Jordan Catalano days. A few years after that, he kind of fell off the radar. But recently, his band that everyone used to joke about, 30 Seconds to Mars, has become legitimately, horrifyingly popular — to say nothing of the unfortunate hair choices that seem to define his new, rock-star persona.

So, we’re feeling pretty ambivalent about this clip Leto posted on his website yesterday, the 17th anniversary of Cobain’s death. It shows the actor/musician dressed up as Cobain, performing “Pennyroyal Tea” and a few seconds of “Rape Me,” as well as wandering around outdoors with a flannel shirt tied around his waist. Leto explains that he shot the clip when he heard a film was being made about Cobain’s life (probably, from the looks of it, Gus Van Sant’s Last Days) but never submitted it for consideration.
