Watch Kat Dennings Kill It in a Preview of CBS’s ‘2 Broke Girls’

We have to admit that, while a few shows sound intriguing, we have yet to be super-psyched about any of the new fall series the networks have been unveiling this week — until now. We were cautiously optimistic when we first heard about 2 Broke Girls, a sitcom about a working-class girl (Kat Dennings) and a fallen heiress (Beth Behrs) who become roommates and work together in a Brooklyn restaurant. There were some potential pitfalls, namely a network like CBS — which is known for its older audience — trying hard to be cool. But this initial glimpse at the Whitney Cummings-produced show is decidedly promising. Dennings is delightful, as usual. We especially enjoy her mouthy retort to an entitled hipster in the first few seconds of the clip. Check out the preview after the jump and let us know whether you’ll be watching. … Read More

Rate-a-Trailer: Daydream Nation

With a score by Broken Social Scene, a title that references a Sonic Youth album, and a main character named Thurston, Mike Goldbach’s Daydream Nation could be one of those movies that’s trying to hard to appeal to the hipster demographic. From the voice over in the trailer we learn that our teen protagonist is having great sex with her teacher, but from the looks of it, their affair doesn’t last, and she ends up with a guy closer to her own age. Josh Lucas cries about it, and then bleaches his hair. There’s also a serial killer involved. Check it out after the jump. … Read More

Sundance ’09 Films We’re Already Falling For

Prop 8 boycotters be damned, the slate for this year’s Sundance Film Festival has been announced, and as always it reads like an overwhelming buffet of tasty cinematic treasures along with a few movies that we would never, ever want to see. The ones that we’re the most excited about? The films that star the actors who we love most, naturally.

(Admittedly this is a flawed way of doing things, as last year it meant that we completely missed out on Momma’s Man and Man on Wire, but our screening powers are only as good as our unhealthy crush on Michael Cera.)

After the jump, the five flicks that we’ll be vying for good seats at come January; leave your own picks in the comments. … Read More
