Celebrities Dressed Like Christmas Trees

Where do you like to string your tinsel and LED lights? On your house? On your tree? On your body? This time of year, holiday parties and city streets are overwhelmed with costumes parodying Christmas’s jolliest bearer of gifts. Inspired by Katy Perry’s opening monologue ensemble from the latest installment of SNL, we’ve decided to take a look at an earthlier, rarer costume alternative — the Christmas tree. It’s pretty, it’s bright, it smells good. What’s not to love? Dangle a few ornaments from your ears, coat yourself in lights, and stick a star on your forehead — you’ll light up any office party with an accessible power outlet. The following celebrities know what’s up; take note from some intentional and accidental Christmas tree costumes after the jump. … Read More

The Best and Worst of Last Night's 'SNL' with Katy Perry

This episode of Saturday Night Live was actually much better than we expected, relatively solid all the way through. Sporting a new blond bob that we think makes her look kind of like Emily Blunt, host Katy Perry never let us forget her pop-star status, finding some way to incorporate her singing voice into almost every skit. Kristin Wiig was on top of her game last night, managing to avoid all of her painfully obnoxious characters for a set of fresh, funny ones, and the show was bolstered by a number of charming guest appearances, including Alec Baldwin and Matt Damon. Click through to watch the sketches we thought were the best and those that made us cringe, and let us know your own thoughts in the comments! … Read More

See Katy Perry's Russell Brand Impression in New 'SNL' Promo

Rumors that Katy Perry and Russell Brand’s marriage is on the rock have been flying — and both the pop star and the comedian have been vociferously denying them. “I am really happily married,” Brand told Ellen DeGeneres last week. “I’m married to Katy. Perpetually, until death do us part was the pledge.” Now, it looks like Perry is running some subtle damage control in a new promo for Saturday Night Live, which she’ll be hosting this week — and which we’ll be watching, if for no other reason than because Robyn is the musical guest. In one of a handful of new clips, Perry does an affectionate impression of Brand, relating the advice he gave her for hosting the show. Watch it, and find yourself entertaining the idea that she may not be such a bad host after all, below. … Read More

The Top 10 Most Followed Twitter Accounts Might Depress You

Lady Gaga. Justin Bieber. Katy Perry. You might expect to see these names on, say, the list of big winners at the MTV Video Music Awards. They are also, it turns out, the only people in the world with more popular Twitter accounts than Barack Obama — who edges out famous-for-being-famous divorcée-to-be Kim Kardashian by less than 150,000 followers, according to new stats compiled by Twitaholic. The remainder of the top 10 includes four pop stars (Britney Spears, Shakira, Rihanna, and Taylor Swift) and Ashton Kutcher. Friends, you’ll have to scroll all the way down to #23 to find a news organization (CNN Breaking News). Also depressing? Perez Hilton has more followers than The New York Times. See how many followers each of the 10 most popular tweeters has racked up after the jump, and then visit Digital Media News if you think you can stomach the entire top 100. Spoiler alert: In case you’re still laboring under the illusion that Twitter users are still elite, media-savvy types, this is all the evidence you’ll need to convince you that those days are long gone. … Read More

Watch Pop’s Fakest Musicians Tell You to “Be Yourself”

“Be yourself” is great — if overused — advice. Lately, we’ve heard various versions of that exhortation from the mouths of pop stars like Lady Gaga (“You were born this way, baby”) and Katy Perry (“Baby, you’re a firework”). While it’s wonderful that they’re telling geeks and gay kids that there’s nothing wrong with them, there is a certain irony in hearing people who have massively changed their appearance and persona in pursuit of fame espouse that sentiment. That observation is at the heart of a funny new video by comedy writer and actress Alison Bennett, which finds Gaga, Perry, and Nicki Minaj talking about how being yourself means transforming into “an 86-pound blonde that hatched from an egg” or wearing “a wig on a wig on a wig.” Overall, it’s a great skit — although we have to take exception to Bennett calling pre-Gaga Stefani Germanotta “chubby.” … Read More

10 Famous Beauty Pageant Veterans

If you flipped to FX last Thursday night, the TV screen probably looked more like TLC’s Toddlers & Tiaras than It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. The episode, appropriately titled, “Frank Reynolds’ Little Beauties,” saw Danny DeVito’s attempts to host a children’s beauty pageant without appearing like a pedophile. As per usual, all hell broke loose and the Paddy’s gang came out on the bottom, but not before Sweet Dee relived her childhood beauty queen dreams. To continue this Always Sunny trend of pageantry reminiscence, we’ve gathered some celebrities with real-life pasts of sashes and crowns. Check ‘em out after the jump. … Read More
