Hey, remember back when Bridesmaids came out, and everybody was all, “It’s your social responsibility to support female-driven comedy,” and then it was a hit, so yay for funny ladies? And then The Hunger Games came out, and everybody was all, “It’s your social responsibility to support a female-driven blockbuster,” and then it was a hit, so yay for lady ass-kickers? Well, as it turns out, none of that mattered a lick, because according to a study released yesterday by the USC Annenberg School of Communication and Journalism, female representation in popular films is at its lowest level in five years. ‘Zero Dark Thirty,’ ‘Lincoln’ Dominate First Major Film Awards of 2012 Season
It’s an exciting day for those of us who trust film critics over the Academy: The New York Film Critics Circle has spent the past several hours announcing the winners of its annual awards in the most excruciating way possible — one by one, on Twitter. This year’s biggest honors went to Zero Dark Thirty, which scooped up Best Film, Best Director, and Best Cinematographer. Intriguing Civil War-Style Portraits of ‘Lincoln’ Extras in Real Life
Spotted by Adweek, this portrait series conceptualized Anya Mills, a senior art producer at The Martin Agency, and shot by Richmond-based photographer Adam Ewing, took advantage of all of the extras from Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln that were roaming around town with crazy, old-fashioned hairstyles and normal, everyday street clothes. The resulting photos, like the classic Mathew Brady images that they reference, present the subject to the viewer with a stark, unflinching reality — but the fact that we’re looking at out-of-costume actors gives the homage a pretty interesting twist. Click through to check them out! … Read More
See Daniel Day-Lewis in Steven Spielberg’s ‘Lincoln’ Trailer

How many terrible wigs can you spot? Find out in the clip past the break. Spielberg aimed to feature the man that Lincoln was and not the “monument,” according to Slash Film. Sally Field, David Strathairn, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, James Spader, Hal Holbrook, and Tommy Lee Jones also star. The film opens November 9, with a wide release on November 16. Tell us what you make of it below, and then check out what other fall movies we’re eagerly anticipating. … Read More
