Cool ‘Jurassic Park’-Inspired Art From Mondo’s New Gallery Show

By

The jury is still out on Jurassic World, the third sequel (and the first in 14 years) of the Jurassic Park franchise. But one thing’s for certain: the release of the new film has given everyone a chance to reflect on how much they loved the original. And we’re not just talking about the surplus of writers penning appreciations of Steven Spielberg’s groundbreaking 1993 adventure movie; the fine folks at Mondo Gallery in Austin, Texas have put together When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth, a “dino-sized gallery show” of artworks and screen prints celebrating the Jurassic iconography. The show doesn’t open until Friday, but our friends at Mondo were kind enough to give us a peek at some preview images — including a handful exclusive to Flavorwire.

Fascinating Early Drafts and Alternate Versions of ‘Star Wars’ Movie Posters

By

There’s nothing like seeing the working versions of a soon-to-be-iconic pop culture artifact — that fascination with process is at the root of our love for studio music bootlegs, handwritten writing drafts, deleted movie scenes, and the like. The promotional images for the Star Wars movies unquestionably hold a hallowed place in film and cultural history, and they’re all beautifully reproduced in Star Wars Art: Posters, the fifth and final volume in the George Lucas-curated series. But even better are the initial pencil sketches and work-in-progress drafts of those images that fill in the gaps. Lucasfilm and publisher Abrams Books were kind enough to share a few of those rough drafts with us, along with some additional bits of alternate poster lore; check them all out after the jump.

A Sneak Peek at Mondo’s ‘Game of Thrones’ Art Show

By

Currently showing at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin: something other than movies you can drink during. The folks behind Alamo collectible-art division Mondo asked a slew of visual artists to create art inspired by HBO’s Game of Thrones, and they have the results — some 30 original works of art, plus two of an eventual eight screen prints — on display at the Drafthouse. After the jump, check out ten of our favorites, and if you’re lucky enough to be at SXSW this week, head on over to take a peek in person.

Incredible Mondo Posters Celebrating the 2013 Academy Award-Nominated Films

By

We’re big fans of Mondo, the art division of the Alamo Drafthouse that creates limited edition posters honoring classic and contemporary films. They’ve also got a few vinyl movie soundtracks and VHS re-releases up their sleeves (and they sell tees). Mondo’s latest offering is a collection of posters tied to nominated movies in select Oscar categories. The Austin-based gallery was kind enough to give us a preview of some of the artworks, which we’ve featured in our gallery. Several regular Mondo contributors like Olly Moss, Tyler Stout, and Jay Ryan wooed us with their versions of Django Unchained, Moonrise Kingdom, Best Picture winner Argo, and more. Check out these beautiful posters, and then head to Mondo’s Twitter feed for purchase details.
