We’re not really sure why Cee-Lo decided to release “The Ol’ Sauseej,” a parody of Broken Bells’ “The Ghost Inside” that pays homage to both kinds of sausage. Maybe it’s some sort of inside joke with Danger Mouse from their Gnarls Barkley days? But regardless of the back story, we’re glad that he did, because the resulting track is kind of awesome. Download it for free here, and let us know what you think in the comments. [via Some Kind of Awesome]
Christmas is over and done with, which means that the insufferable barrage of carols is over for another year and you’ve probably got a few days off to sit and devour some new music. If Santa didn’t fill your stocking with a bunch of new tunes, never fear — plenty of artists are giving away free stuff in a display of seasonal altruism. Or clever digital marketing. Or something. Here’s a round-up of the best action to be had.

With the success of True Blood and Twilight, anything with fangs is in style at the moment. But the “New Fang” everyone is talking about doesn’t vaporize at sunrise. It’s the first studio single from Them Crooked Vultures, a raucous combination of Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters), John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin) and Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age). As supergroups go, these guys would blow Monsters of Folk out of the building with their relentless rhythm-based rock.
Check out the self-titled debut album on November 17th, catch them live in LA, and stream “New Fang” after the jump.

Back in June we told you about Elizabeth Goodman’s unauthorized Cat Power biography — a piece that stirred up some of our most heated commenter debate to date. This morning, courtesy of Pop Candy we’ve been listening to these Cat Power BBC performances non-stop; the awkward interaction between Chan Marshall and the host on a few tracks is rather priceless. She’s a divisive artist around Flavorpill HQ, but for those of you who are fans, you’ll definitely enjoy this expansive collection of downloadable songs.
Free MP3s are great, but they’re even better when they’re for new tracks from some of the bigger names in indie music. We also like to keep things fresh over here at Flavorpill, so we’ve also included a crop of new faces for your listening pleasure, too. Chances are you’ll probably end up liking them just as much — if not more. Click through for downloads from our last Viva Radio playlist, and be sure to check back and listen to the show itself. We update every week. Read More »
