Wanted: Pretty Bill Murray Posters

+

Freelance illustrator Derek Eads is a self-taught artist known for his collaborations with Jessica Martins under the name Assorted Hearts. While his pop culture obsessions include Conan O’Brien, Michael Cera, Samuel L. Jackson, and Nic Cage, if you visit his studio at Society6, you’ll notice that there’s a preponderance of Bill Murray-inspired artwork. Not that we’re complaining. Click through to check out some of our favorites of Eads’ affordable prints.

What’s on at Flavorpill: Links That Made the Rounds in Our Office

Today at Flavorpill, we were excited to learn that Elizabeth Banks will be playing Alec Baldwin’s love interest on 30 Rock — but does she really have to channel Sean Hannity? We discovered that Tom Cruise was the original voice of Captain Planet. We wondered why anyone would be curious enough to drop $1B on a CD-Rom for Windows 98. We wanted to join a complaints choir. With news of Elvis Costello and Neko Case joining its cast, we were more intrigued than ever by the Stephen King/John Mellencamp musical. We heard more from Dave Longstreth’s old “boy band.” We vowed never to watch the Jersey Shore porn parody, Jersey Whores. Not even for research purposes. Not even if Michael Cera cameos. And finally, we were amazed that Nic Cage can play anyone — even Sarah Palin.

Today at Flavorpill, we re-watched the season finale of True Blood, complete with a laugh track. We listened to what Don Draper had to say about health care reform. We were excited for Betty White’s guest appearance on the upcoming season of 30 Rock. We were frightened by Nic Cage’s glam rock take on Superman. We read Nabakov’s new and improved version of Kafka’s Metamorphosis. We met a mini-Glenn Beck, who looks like a huge dork. We wished that Grizzly Bear’s Chris Taylor had picked a more fortuitous name for his new indie label, Terrible Records. We learned about the birth of Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run.” And finally, we said farewell to The Summer of Death (Credit: Alex Balk). It looks like we won this round of Battleship.

The Mother Ode: A Cinematic Pantheon of Mamas

+

Since the Lumières’ first homespun projections, there have been umpteen films about, and for, mothers. The portraits have ranged from adoring to crazed to Camus-cold (“Mother died today. Or maybe yesterday; I can’t be sure.”). After the jump, peruse our categorized list — more Mamma Rosa than Mamma Mia, but by no means the maternal final word.
