What’s on at Flavorpill: The Links That Made the Rounds in Our Office

Today at Flavorpill, we saw what a 21st century version of Citizen Kane would look like. We questioned what American Apparel has against plucking your eyebrows and blow-drying your hair. We traveled back to 1999 with Surfer Blood and Pains of Being Pure at Heart’s cover of Lit’s “My Own Worst Enemy.” We were absolutely dead set against a proposed remake of Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead. We watched an abridged version of the USA vs. England World Cup nail-biter — as told in Legos. We imagined what it would be like to live inside of a home built from Boeing 747 jumbo jet scraps. We feared the hangover a night of drinking with Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton would have resulted in. We had no clue how Dan Scott from One Tree Hill landed a gig directing a film adaptation of Atlas Shrugged. And finally, we wondered if the Old Spice guy is hot enough to save NBC from their crappy ratings. Probably not.

Filipino Malls Are Hipper than Brooklyn Bodegas

We all know their cover bands are awesome, but, until I took a recent trip, I had no idea Filipinos fell so hard for esoteric Brooklyn indie acts. This picture captures stacks of CDs by home-borough faves Crystal Stilts and the Pains of Being Pure At Heart as featured prominently at a chain store in the center of a Manila Mall. After the jump, the Filipino equivalents of Ra Ra Riot and Weezer (both recommended by an amused employee) add even more unexpected awesome.
