Smiths Lyrics as Penguin Classic Book Covers

If you’re anything like us, you’ve spent many an afternoon kicked back on your bed, listening to the plaintive tones of The Smiths and reading a tattered Penguin Classic, nodding fiercely at the injustice of the world. Even if not, we think you’ll probably be able to appreciate these excellent imagined book covers by Raid 71, aka Chris Thornley, which we spotted over at Creative Bloq. Thornley cherry-picks lyrics and turns them into book titles, dressing them up in that classic 60s Penguin iconography we all know so well. A Sneak Peek at the New Deluxe Penguin Classics

There’s something so refreshing about a good Penguin Classics redesign – or any quality book cover redesign for that matter, we’re not picky. We get to know the covers as we get to know the books, the one sometimes standing in for the other, so a redesign can often feel like a way to experience a classic work in a whole new way. Or maybe we just like it it’s just someone making art about our favorite books, which we also obviously enjoy. The always reliable Caustic Cover Critic has tipped us off to two new installments in the Penguin Deluxe Classics graphic series, as well as three new covers from something called “Penguin Threads”, which looks to be this year’s answer to the publishing house’s 75th Anniversary Penguin Ink collection.
