Perez Hilton Reinvents Himself as a Mommy Blogger

+

In the year since Perez Hilton renounced his obnoxious and exploitative ways — remember, this is the guy who gave the world upskirt photos of an underage Miley Cyrus — the notorious blogger has undergone quite a strange transformation. These days, for instance, he scribbles unnecessary captions (“Ugh!”; “Surprise!”) on celebrity photos, rather than just drawing penises on them. And just a few weeks ago, Hilton published his first children’s book, The Boy with the Pink Hair, about a kid who gets teased because of his abnormally colored tresses. Now, Reuters reports that he’ll continue his quest to balance rumor-mongering with wholesomeness in a new endeavor: Perezitos, a site that will combine news about famous families and children with original content geared toward parents and created by advice-dispensing “mommy experts.” According to Hilton, the site makes sense because “[p]eople love babies and children and pregnancies. People love weddings; people love new couples. It’s not just about train wrecks and out-of-control celebrities.”

A few reactions to this news: 1. So it isn’t just about train wrecks… but it is kind of also about that. Right? 2. Does the world really need another mommy blog — one created by a childless 33-year-old gossip blogger, no less? 3. So if the other main focus of Perezitos is celebrity babies, baby bumps, and weddings, can someone tell us exactly what makes this new-media venture different from, say, People or Us? [via Jezebel]

This Week in Buzz

+

Editor’s note: Each Friday, our internet-savvy friends over at BuzzFeed curate a post for us that’s filled with links to some of their favorite items on the web that week. Enjoy!

The final week of March has come and gone, spring is in the air, and for some that means it’s time to have sex in public. No, really. The week began with Community star Donald Glover Tweeting these candid shots of a couple getting intimate inside of a Bank of America. [Insert tasteless joke about "making a deposit" here.] Three days later, this other couple was spotted smooshing parts on a rooftop somewhere on the University of Southern California campus.

Diablo Cody’s Eggo Is Preggo

+

As you may know, we’re big fans of Diablo Cody around here. Yes, the language in Juno might feel dated these days, but any adult woman who is part of a group who call themselves “The Fempire” is aces in our book. So when we read Perez Hilton’s exclusive scoop that the Oscar-winning screenwriter recently got remarried and is about to give birth, we were as happy for her as you can be for someone who you don’t actually know. (Remember back in 2007, when she was forced to engage in some very public post-divorce tattoo doctoring? No one deserves that.) We’re still waiting for an official announcement, but until then keep your fingers crossed that she’s forshizz up the spout, and it’s not just a food baby…

Exclusive Q&A + Ticket Giveaway: Ladyhawke

61

ladyhawke

After the release of her eponymous debut album, New Zealand musician Phillipa Brown, known as Ladyhawke, enjoyed near-unanimous critical acclaim and the development of a steadily-growing international fan base. She’s co-headlining a tour with Semi Precious Weapons, Julian Perretta, and Frankmusick sponsored by gossip blogger Perez Hilton (which kicked off yesterday in Atlanta) and is currently working on the follow up to her debut. Her singles “Paris Is Burning” and “My Delirium” are slick throwbacks to the glory days of ’80s synth pop and have both been hits overseas.

After the jump, read our complete interview with Brown, where we chat about meeting Perez, Christina Aguilera’s rumored cover of one of her hits, and why she’s really grunge at heart. Read More »

What’s on at Flavorpill: Links that Made the Rounds in the Office

+

Today at Flavorpill, we poured over these amazing photographs from Iran. We were intrigued by the teaser poster for the upcoming season of Dexter. In other TV news, we were surprised that Bryan Fuller is already leaving Heroes; it seems like the series can’t get a break. We were lamed out by Chris Brown’s plea deal. We watched the Perez/Will.I.Am smackdown. We were mesmerized by the baseball infographics over at Flip Flop Fly Ball (and also, the name). We had to go back and read this Ray Bradbury article. We laughed out loud at this… and then we realized we don’t have a book and got jealous. We made a mental note never to let Kate Moss near our laptops — especially when we’re in a rock band and recording an album. And finally, we drooled all over this interview with True Blood‘s Stephen Moyer. It’s our favorite show on TV right now.
