Robert Downey Jr. Hilariously Dressed As a Saucy Vintage Pinup

Tumblr Pinuprdj has a simple premise: “Vintage pinups are the pinnacle of art. Robert Downey Jr. is the pinnacle of sexy. It’s not rocket science.” We spotted the saucy, strange vintage images featuring the Iron Man actor’s stubbled mug on website Inspiredocean and haven’t been able to tear our eyes away from them since.

It’s not the first time RDJ has flirted with frilly dresses — and loved every moment of it. The star appeared in Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows in drag. He told MTV, “Pretty much the entire opening of the film I’m wearing a Chinese dress Gui, which I enjoyed very much.” And who can forget John Hughes’ 1985 comedy Weird Science featuring a young RDJ as a high school jerkface wearing a bra on his head. Pouty, pinup-style lips enthrall French artist Hubert de Lartigue. His hyperreal paintings — which are created with an airbrush for the perfect slick, lipgloss-approved sheen — are fetishistic fantasy portraits reminiscent of vintage glamour girl photos and sexy fashion magazine spreads combined. The artist has painted the rest of his models’ bodies before, but his images of curling tongues, pearly smiles, and puckered pouts seem far more enigmatic and seductive. It’s also interesting to see how much someone’s personality rests even in the delicate lines of their mouth. Vintage pinup-style photography has been so overused in the past several years that it’s basically a visual cliché. So it’s refreshing to see someone make it new — not to mention totally bizarre.
