‘The Office’ Comes to a Poignant, Lovable Conclusion

Last night on NBC, with the appropriate pomp and fanfare, The Office did what it should have done at the close of season seven: it came to an end. The American version of the British classic had an appropriate cause for conclusion when star Steve Carrel made his exit, but the Peacock wasn’t ready to let one of its few successes go quite that easily. So things got bumpy in Scranton, during an eighth year filled with miscalculations and peculiarities. But when original showrunner Greg Daniels was brought back in to steer the show snugly into port during its last season, a funny thing happened: The Office started to work again. And last night’s series finale was a fine, poignant wrap-up of an erratic but lovable show. … Read More

Rainn Wilson Reveals His Angus T. Jones-Inspired Feelings on ‘The Office’

“Dwight from The Office is nothing, OK? The Office is nothing, all right? If you watch The Office… please don’t watch The Office. I’m on The Office, it’s filth.” Oh yes, TV fans, it’s happening again. Inspired by 19-year-old Two and a Half Men star Angus T. Jones’ now-partially-retracted YouTube video denouncing that show, Rainn Wilson has been moved to tell us what he really thinks about The Office. And in homage to Jones’ clip, he even appears with an eerily silent buddy for moral support: Craig Robinson, who is killing it on the viral video front this week. So, which sitcom star will have a faux religious revelation next? Amy Poehler? Donald Glover? Mindy Kaling? Here’s hoping this will start a full-on meme. … Read More

Who Should Star in the New Brian Wilson Biopic?

Today’s biggest pop-culture news is that visionary Beach Boy Brian Wilson is getting his own biopic, and The Tree of Life producer Bill Pohlad and I’m Not There screenwriter Oren Moverman are already attached to the project. As anyone who knows even the basics of rock history knows, Wilson has lived one hell of a strange and sad life, which would make great film fodder if handled properly. Although it’s encouraging that Pohlad and Moverman are on board, we’re interested to see who will end up directing the movie — and can’t wait to hear who will star in it. We have a few ideas on that front. Read them after the jump, then let give us your suggestions in the comments. … Read More
