Photos of 32 Famous Actors and Their Doubles

By

[Editor’s note: In celebration of the holidays, we’re spending the next two Tuesdays by counting down the top 12 Flavorwire features of 2012. This post, at #11, was originally published July 6th.] If you’re anything like us, you often find yourself struggling to catch tiny glimpses of stunt doubles’ faces in action movies. There’s no way Tom Cruise is capable of all those impossible missions in Mission: Impossible, right? Thanks to a post on good ol’ Reddit, we were recently graced with 17 fascinating photos of actors side-by-side with their stunt doubles. Some look exactly alike, while others — er, we’ll let you judge stuntman Will Arnett’s hairline and stuntwoman Jennifer Lopez’s gender for yourself. We did a bit of digging to bring you even more photos of actors with their stunt doubles and stand ins, so check ’em out after the jump, and hit the comments to let us know who wins and loses the lookalike contest.

Flavorwire’s Guide to Indie Flicks to See in August

By

The Shocking Beards of Generally Clean-Faced Celebs

By

Now, we’re generally pro-scruff in all its forms, but his week, we stumbled across a photograph of David Bowie rocking a delicate, demure beard, and we were just a little bit shocked. After all, for all the man’s stylistic hijinks, we’ve never seen him with a beard before, and there’s something distinctly strange about it. Some men can transition in and out of beards with no drama, but some faces have become so iconic in their clean-shaven state that a beard is frankly unsettling. Inspired by Bowie, we’ve put together a collection of the most shocking beards that have popped up on the faces of generally bare-faced celebrities (whether in recent memory or in the willful days of their youth), after the jump. Click through to check out these surprising beards, and let us know if we missed your favorite (or if we’ve inspired you to rethink that summer scruff) in the comments.

10 Cannes Films We Can’t Wait to See

By

Your Flavorwire has done its level best to hit the film festivals of note this year, but we’re afraid our travel budget was running a little too dry after Sundance and SXSW for us to make our way over to Cannes. (We’re even more disappointed than you are.) But we’ve been keeping a close eye on the reviews coming from the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès, and have found plenty to get excited about in those dispatches. After the jump, we’ve assembled ten of the Cannes films we’re most looking forward to, with words of encouragement from some of the folks who were lucky enough to get a glimpse. (h/t to IndieWire, for their invaluable CriticWire directory of Cannes reviews.)
