10 Movies We Can’t Believe Have Merchandise Tie-Ins

In its first weekend of wide release, Harmony Korine’s hedonistic morality play Spring Breakers did a respectable $5 million and landed in the top ten — certainly a first for Korine, and an indication that newbie distributor A24 may have an indie hit on their hands. And when a movie is big, you know what comes next: merchandising! You wouldn’t think that Korine’s feverish vision of gun-toting, bikini-wearing babes would be a natural for tie-in products, but you’d be wrong; after the jump, we’ll take a look at your must-have Breakers merch, and nine other unlikely movies you won’t believe were merchandised. … Read More

10 ’90s Kids Movies We’d Actually Watch the Sequels To Today

This week, we heard a rumor that Disney is developing a sequel to everyone’s favorite ’90s Halloween cult classic Hocus Pocus, tentatively titled Hocus Pocus 2: Rise of the Elderwitch. Not that there wouldn’t obviously be an enormous camp factor regardless of the film, but still. Obviously, we’ve stayed away from movies that already have sequels to their name, but otherwise, we let our little nostalgic hearts run wild. Literary Favorites Illustrated Muppets-Style

When he’s not busy creating covers for IDW’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles micro series, writing and illustrating his Eisner award-winning comic book fantasy series Mouse Guard, and contributing to Free Comic Book Day, Michigan artist David Petersen is making us fall in love with his literary-inspired Muppets illustrations. We first spotted Petersen’s mashup covers on io9 and fell hard for Kermit, Miss Piggy, and the gang as characters out of Snow White, Robin Hood, King Arthur, and other treasured tales. The covers were created for BOOM! Studios, but with this kind of loving attention it’s clear that Petersen is a fellow puppet fiend. Check out our gallery below, smile like crazy, and then head to the artist’s website for more great artwork. … Read More

Rate-a-Trailer: Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood

Simply put, Ridley Scott’s version of this popular tale is Robin Hood for the Braveheart crowd. If you were a fan of Kevin Reynold’s glossy take on the popular English myth back in the ’90s, then this decidedly R-rated update might not be your thing. But, if you loved Gladiator and Black Hawk Down’s quick cut violence and hyper-realism, this should be right up your alley. Check out the heavy metal soundtracked trailer and some stillsafter the jump, and let us know what you… Read More
