Seven Psychopaths

This Year’s Independent Spirit Awards Nominations Announced

The Spirit Awards are like the Academy Awards of the independent film world — and in recent years, they’ve also served as a pretty good predictor of which titles would be receiving Oscar nominations. Thanks to big budget, yet critic-friendly releases like Argo, Lincoln, Les Miserables, Zero Dark Thirty, and Life of Pi, that might not necessarily be the case this year. That said, we imagine that you’ll be hearing about more than a few of these films in the awards season ahead, specifically David O. Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook and Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom, which lead the pack with five nods a piece. Also receiving multiple nominations: Beasts of the Southern Wild, Middle of Nowhere, and Keep the Lights On, which scored four nominations each. The look on Walken’s face when Rudnick presents his plan is priceless all on its own, but stick around to hear him interpret Mama’s “vajiggle jaggle” musings and Farrell gamely attempt Chubbs’ accent. We can’t help wondering whether we’ll see “sketti” make an appearance on Walken’s new cooking show. … Read More

Watch the ‘Seven Psychopaths’ Trailer Reenacted by Cats

If the Internet knows one thing for sure, it’s that everything is better with cats. This goes double for the trailers for Martin McDonagh’s much-anticipated forthcoming heist comedy, Seven Psychopaths. Directed by Jim Tozzi, of Wonder Showzen and Xavier: Renegade Angel fame, the parody videos take audio from the actual trailers and re-cast the scenes with adorable and ridiculous cats. While it’s a treat to hear all of the A-list cast members’ (Colin Farrell, Tom Waits, Woody Harrelson, Gabourey Sidibe) voices come out of felines dressed like their characters, the Christopher Walken cat is obviously our favorite. Click through to watch one Seven PsychoCATS trailer, and check out the Red Band version here. … Read More
