Here’s Your First Look at Jason Wu’s Target Line

1

We’ve been anxiously awaiting the arrival of the Jason Wu for Target collection since it was first announced back in October with this lovely sketch of a black cocktail dress. Now, thanks to The Moment, we’ve gotten a sneak peek at a few of the items that we’ll be fighting to score when the clothes hit stores on February 5. “My goal was not to duplicate anything from my main collection,” explains Wu, who says that inspiration for these “gamine chic” pieces came from French New Wave films and the actress Jean Seberg. “Instead I designed completely new clothes and accessories that reflect my taste and have a voice of their own.” Click through for a closer look at the poplin dress/satchel combo, as well as teaser video for the collection.

We Love the ’90s: Elizabeth & James and Rodarte for Target

1

Is it just us, or has fashion been doing a bit of a time warp lately? If the recent lookbooks for Rodarte’s collaboration with Target and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s Elizabeth & James line are any indication, fashion is shunning modernity in favor of some ’90s nostalgia. And trust us when we say that the ’90s have never looked so good.

During the past few years, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have managed to spearhead two lines, the couture label The Row and the “affordable” ready-to-wear Elizabeth & James, and become reputable names in the fashion industry, even earning a spot in the prestigious CFDA last year.

Five Looks We Hope Zac Posen Diffuses for Target

+

The ladies over at Fashionista reported this morning that Zac Posen will be the latest in a line of designers tapped to design a capsule collection for Target. Hot on the heels of Anna Sui, Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte, and Alexander McQueen, Posen’s GO International line will launch online and in stores on April 25, 2010. But, without a single sketch or sample to gawk at until then, we figured we’d give Zac some suggestions. Some of our favorite looks off the Zac Posen runway we hope to see at your local strip mall after the jump.

Smart Investments: Pearl Jam Memorabilia

3

News that Pearl Jam‘s new record Backspacer, which retailed primarily at Target stores, topped this week’s Billboard chart after selling 189,000 copies convinces us of two things: First off, Mark Graham at Vulture is right; we’re one Candlebox reunion away from a total grunge resurgence.

Secondly (and more importantly), there’s an excellent opportunity here for entrepreneurial types; the time has come to comb eBay for some rare Pearl Jam memorabilia. Click through to see what we found. Read More »

What’s on at Flavorpill: Links That Made the Rounds in Our Office

+

Today at Flavorpill, we liked everything, including iconic 20th century photography, better once it’s been reimagined with Legos. We rooted for Das Racist in their cartoon battle with the New Yorker. We applauded innovative uses for VHS tapes and floppy disks (now if we could only repurpose our Beanie Babies.) We invested in deodorant to evade the Hawaii 5-O. We looked back on a time when bears roamed Manhattan and the whole island cost $12. We shook our heads at Kermit and Miss Piggy’s latest duet — Kermit, you can do so much better!  Call us. We felt like we were Facebook friends with Charles Saatchi because he told us 30 things about himself. We totes toted around a tote bag made of a Target billboard. We spreken ze prejudice. We thanked PopCandy for going to the trouble of making us this list of Labor Day weekend TV marathons. Finally, we bore witness to Chris Brown’s bowtie and all the important revelations it made. Hey, bowtie, do you know Aretha Franklin’s crazy hat?
