Dads, don’t let your teenage daughters date long-haired guys with pixellated faces. That stuff could be contagious! Such is the apparent moral of a great new Dinosaur Jr. video, for their sneakily addictive single “Watch the Corners.” Starring Tim Heidecker (of Tim and Eric fame) as the overprotective father of a young woman who works at grocery and falls for a bad boy with a very peculiar digital affliction, it’s an oddball take on a familiar theme, with a satisfyingly cathartic conclusion. Dinosaur Jr. has released the clip via Funny or Die, appropriately enough, further cementing a connection the comedy world we recently detected in J. Mascis’ interview with Candace, the feminist bookstore lady from Portlandia. Watch the video after the jump. … Read More

Cinema's Best Intentionally Bad Movies
Some movies, like The Room and Birdemic: Shock and Terror, are so awful that they’re simply amazing to sit down and watch. You can tell that the people who made these films did so with the best of intentions and seriously had no idea how bad they were, and that’s what makes them so compelling. Naturally, it stands to reason that other filmmakers would want to latch on to that kind of cult status, but it’s hard to make a so-bad-it’s-good movie when you’re actually trying — usually it just ends up being bad. Still, there are some amazing films that were actually intended to be pretty ridiculous, and we’d like to share them with you — if you can stomach the terrible special effects and contrived plots, of course. Let us know your favorites in the comments! … Read More

Happy birthday, Levardis Robert Martyn Burton, Jr.! Oh, and feel free to leave your birthday wishes in the comments. He might not read them, but we will. … Read More
First Glimpse: James Murphy in ‘The Comedy’
Back in December, we learned that James Murphy, released from his LCD Soundsystem voice-of-a-generation duties, has taken up acting. In some total no-brainer casting, he stars alongside Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim in The Comedy, a film about bored, aging Brooklyn hipster dudes. Although the movie doesn’t have a release date yet, director Rick Alverson has posted an early clip, giving us a chance to check out Murphy’s chops. Well, sort of. While Murphy is sitting between Tim and Eric in a cab as they mercilessly mock the driver, he doesn’t exactly say anything. He does do a pretty nice job chuckling along, though! … Read More

Video of the Day: Frank Black Goes Christian Rock
That’s right, folks: Even rock stars need their daily affirmation. We assume that’s why the Pixies’ Frank Black agreed to be a guest on Morning Prayer with Skott and Behr, which you may recognize from the venerable Tim and Eric universe. The hosts, who have not (of course) heard Black’s music, pose existential questions such as, “What is music?” and “What is sound?” And then Black performs — er, tries to perform. … Read More
