True Blood

Popular TV Shows Improved by Diddy

Just like pretty much everyone else on the Internet, the inhabitants of Flavorwire central giggled heartily at the news yesterday that Diddy was trying to inveigle his way onto Downton Abbey. The fact that the whole thing was a clever piece of promotion for a pretty amusing Funny or Die video didn’t dampen our enthusiasm any — by then, we’d moved onto envisaging other TV shows that we’d like to see Diddy on, and breaking out Photoshop to make our dreams a reality. See the results of our fantasies after the jump. … Read More

10 TV Shows Better Than the Books They Were Based On

So if you’re celebrating your birthday today, you share it with Charlaine Harris, she who gave the world the insanely successful Sookie Stackhouse novels and thus, indirectly, also the joys of True Blood. As you’ve probably noted if you read Flavorwire at all regularly, we’re borderline obsessed with True Blood, and its success got us thinking of the slew of TV shows based on books that have emerged in the last few years — and, in particular, those that have defied the old adage that the book is always better. We’ve collected a bunch of shows that we reckon have transcended their literary origins — can you think of any other shows that are better than the books they’re based on? (And before you go all crazy in the comments, a disclaimer: we said “better.” We’re not necessarily claiming the books in question are bad — although some most definitely are — just that the TV series they spawned was/is better. OK? Carry on.) … Read More

‘True Blood’ Casts New Love Interest for Sookie

Because if there was one thing True Blood needed, it was another love interest for Sookie Stackhouse. Yet according to TVLine when the show’s sixth season premieres in June, English actor Rob Kazinsky (who you might remember from a brief stint on Brothers and Sisters) will join its cast as our… Read More

‘Blade Runner’ Star Rutger Hauer Joins ‘True Blood’ Season Six

THR reports that Blade Runner star and genre vet Rutger Hauer has joined the cast of True Blood as a series regular. Season six will feature the actor, starring as Macklyn — “who has a deep and dark connection to Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) and her brother, Jason (Ryan Kwanten).” The sixth installment… Read More

The Flavorpill Guide to DIY Pop Culture Halloween Costumes: TV

Halloween: It’s always more complicated than you want it to be. Even if you’ve got your plans set, it’s a struggle to find the perfect costume — without resorting to the same crappy, overpriced, pre-packaged getups everyone else will be wearing. Thankfully, just as we have done for the past two Octobers, Flavorpill is helping you out with a series of easy DIY costume guides tackling various pop-culture realms. Don’t worry — there’s no sewing involved.

For 2012′s first installment, we visit the world of television, where the horror genre is having quite a moment. We’ll show you how to transform yourself into some of the year’s most memorable characters and outfits, from Community to Game of Thrones, after the jump. … Read More

TV’s Top 10 Sexiest Crime-Fighting Duos

Crockett and Tubbs had style. David and Maddie were explosive. And it was all about subtext when it came to Mulder and Scully. TV has seen a number of crime-fighting duos in its years, and the ones we remember most always had that certain “It” factor. On-screen chemistry — and we’re not speaking strictly in the romantic sense — is hard to come by, and lucky for us, there’s no shortage of it at the moment in the buddy cop/taking down evil rich people and terrorists field. In anticipation of Sunday’s Revenge and Homeland season premieres, we’ve decided to rank our favorite crime-fighting duos on TV, from “hotter than Bon Temps on a mild summer day” to “sexier than Inigo Montoya.” Is there a special couple we missed? Let us know! … Read More

10 Bizarre Fan Theories on TV’s Most Popular Shows

In the year ahead we’re expecting to get answers from some of television’s most mystery-ridden shows, from How I Met Your Mother and Homeland to The Office, and even, one day, Breaking Bad (it’s hard to believe now, but that day will come). And so, while we still sit in the space between questions and answers, we decided to round up the most popular and/or bizarre fan theories we’ve seen (some spoilers may be ahead). Have some to elaborate on or share? Let us know! … Read More

Has ‘True Blood’ Become One of the Most Family-Minded Shows on TV?

[Warning: Spoilers ahead if you haven't seen the Season 5 finale.] It’s no secret that fans have become increasingly cold toward True Blood’s myriad subplots, and last night’s birthing-in-a-bar sequence seemed to be one the show’s most incongruent, especially in relation to the bloodbath that followed at the Authority. But underneath its familiar visage of guts and primal sex, the heart of this season has been family and friendship, making Andy Bellefleur’s foray into fairie fatherhood (i.e. “my light broke”), perhaps not so awkward after all. In a world (with the exception of Salt Lake City and a silly little group of moms) increasingly accepting of the “new normal,” supes fit right in. … Read More

TV’s All-Time Greatest Himbos

Damn those short HBO seasons. This year’s True Blood run seems like it just started, yet we’re now only three days away from the finale. We enjoyed this season a great deal, the Vampire Authority’s internal intrigue providing a welcome break from Sookie Stackhouse’s supernatural love triangle — not to mention a surprisingly insightful commentary on what happens when church and state mingle. But one character whose development has remained fairly unexamined this season is Sookie’s brother, Jason. Originally presented as an empty-headed looker with a womanizing streak, he’s recently turned the himbo stereotype on its head. To celebrate his under-the-radar evolution (and the fact that he’s still sometimes a little too stupid for his own good), we’ve collected a selection of TV’s all-time greatest male bimbos — or “himbos” — most of whom aren’t nearly as multi-dimensional. … Read More
