Classified Ads Get a Makeover Courtesy of the Type Directors Club
Earlier this morning Jason Kottke tipped us off to Beautifully Banal, a series of one-of-a-kind, collectible posters commissioned by the Type Directors Club, who have asked a handful of designers to take a classified or personal ad from their local paper and “hijack” it typographically. The resulting works will be auctioned off next month, with proceeds to benefit the TDC Scholarship Fund. Looking for a typography that’s as sexy as you are? BodyType, a joint collaboration between design studios Smart Head and Red Keds, is a font made out of naked people doing explicit things. The project nods at the work of Dutch designer Anthon Beeke, who created photographed an alphabet of naked ladies back in 1969. To experience the fun firsthand, visit the website and type in a message; this will an “interactive” e-card using the BodyType font that you can send to your non-prudish friends.
