Marina Abramović Is Seeking Yogis

+

Marina Abramović — who recently completed her quiet The Artist is Present at the Museum of Modern Art — is once again embarking on a project of “sustained stillness and silence.” The Serbian performance artist has issued a casting call for dancers, yogis, and actors of all ages to participate in a gala event she’s orchestrating for MOCA on November 11 and 12. If you possess ” … excellent physical stamina, focus and discipline,” hit downtown L.A. for auditions November 7 to 10 to strut your stuff for the conceptual art maven. Did we mention public nudity might be required? ” … Only a small percentage of the female roles being cast require nudity,” Abramović reassures on her Facebook page — where you can head for more info. Will you be trying out for a role in the renowned artist’s latest?

Better Bending: 10 Seriously Extreme Yoga Poses

Yoga is a cultural phenomenon that becomes more ubiquitous by the day. We don’t know about you, but we feel pretty accomplished when we can relax into a full wheel — after all, yoga is about contemplation, not competition, right? Right. Photo Gallery: Bhaktifest 2010

Now in its second year, Bhaktifest is a mecca for soul-searching yogis, healers, musicians, and seekers from around the globe. The more grassroots and unabashedly spiritual version of its cousin Wanderlust, this lovefest brings together yoga superstars like Shiva Rea, Ashley Turner, and Saul David Raye, inspiring speakers, and some of the biggest kirtan artists in the world leading crowds in a communal, round the clock singalong. We survived Joshua Tree’s 100+ degree weather thanks to some of the highest quality and most affordable vendors we’ve found at any festival, anywhere, and accommodations at the area’s newest motel/art installation Mojave Sands. Better believe we’ll be back next year — can’t argue with four days of blissed-out desert living.

Exclusive: Flavorpill Does YoGA at the MoMA [Photo Gallery]

5

Where were we bright and early this past Saturday morning, you ask? MoMA’s sculpture garden. More specifically, Flavorpill was honored to co-host the second installment of YoGA at the MoMA, an event program that in our humble opinion, seamlessly aligns art and movement. More than two-hundred yogis of all levels joined us for the hour-long session, which was guided by Virayoga founder Elena Brower. Wish you’d been there?
