Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence is set to play Jazz Age icon Zelda Fitzgerald in an adaptation of Nancy Milford’s best-seller Zelda, which centers on the socialite and author’s tumultuous life — including her relationship with husband and novelist F. Scott Fitzgerald. The new film is being developed by Ron Howard. Lawrence will co-produce the project. From The Hollywood Reporter: “Desperate to define herself through her own art, the film explores the question: Can love exist between creative equals? Born in Montgomery, Alabama, Zelda Fitzgerald was dubbed by her husband as ‘the first American Flapper,’ but her life descended into madness (she was diagnosed with schizophrenia).” And from Milford’s book: “As a result of years of exhaustive research, Nancy Milford brings alive the tormented, elusive personality of Zelda and clarifies as never before her relationship with Scott Fitzgerald. Zelda traces the inner disintegration of a gifted, despairing woman, torn by the clash between her husband’s career and her own talent.” Who would make the perfect Francis Scott Key for Lawrence’s Zelda?
