Like the ocean’s tide, fashions ebb and flow. Whether it’s an indie band, a type of beer, a style of facial hair, a cut of jean, or t-shirt with obscure references, all trends come and go. (And then come and go again with each new generation, so keep those keffiyehs somewhere safe for your future children.) The infographic above deconstructs the natural cycle of hipster fashion, using the example of a hat. Do our findings line up what you’ve seen?

This is just the broad basics of trends in general. They cycle revolves that much faster though when the momentum of hipster self-importance is added.
This is an example of the Rogers Adoption-Innovation curve: http://suewaters.wikispaces.com/file/view/Slide12B.JPG/31092781/Slide12B.JPG. Stop blaming “hipsters” for “ruining” things; this is the way all trends have always worked – ESPECIALLY fashion trends – and humorously, one of the trendiest things to do right now is accuse things of being “hipster”. Hipster isn’t a group or an ideology, it’s just a word that refers to trendy young people even though it kind of started as a pejorative for a certain attitude/scene in NYC (and even then it was a bit of hyperbole).
I think it’s kind of naive to accuse the kids wearing a trendy brand of sunglasses or drinking a certain kind of beer of being any more self-important than anyone else…or at least, I don’t think “hipsters” are any more self-obsessed than teenagers have always been so get over it.
Spoken like a true hipster.
Hipsters call other people hipsters as a pre-emptive tactic to avoid being called a hipster first. It doesn’t work.
shut the f*ck up about hipsters.
shut the f*ck up about hipsters.
shut the f*ck up about hipsters.
SHUT. the f*ck UP. about HIPSTERS. shut the f*ck up forever about them. they are not even real. they are just regular dudes and ladies with a certain aesthetic and maybe a certain taste in music, just like you and your friends. shut the f*ck up about triangles, beards, and irony. you created them. shut the f*ck up about hipsters now and tomorrow check again to be sure you have remained shut (the f*ck) up. shut the f*ck up about buzz bands. clean-shaven dudes in polos like them just as much as hirsute ones in flannel. if you have ever said “ugh there are so many hipsters here” you literally deserve to be murdered. small-town Iowa has dudes who like obscure things too. shut the f*ck up about hipsters.
People who make things like this hating on “hipsters” are just insecure about being labled a hipster themselves.
The problem isn’t hipsters, it’s trendy designers who think they are clever producing lame stuff like this. Try and make something original, I can google “product life cycle” and i would get 5,000,000 of this same chart.

Well done. The one thing I would suggest is to include an arrow/shortcut from ironic to mainstream. This would represent the Ironic Revival that hipsters can trigger.

This comment thread has turned into a hipster cycle. One person broadly agrees –> one person is extremely upset –> everyone makes fun of the really upset person for many comments –> then it dies down until someone finally broadly agrees.
I’m going to be the one who broadly agrees about something by saying I think a true hipster would get defensive, obviously realizing that they have or could be accused of being one. It’s like getting caught red handed.

People are too worried about what other people think. Too busy keeping up with the Jones, too busy trying to make other people think they are cool/edgy/rich/etc. Wear what YOU like regardless if it is out of style or happens to be trendy.

Wow, it’s interesting. In early blogging times I would have posted my blog as a trackback to this post. But it feels like trackbacks are invisible. Anyway, I thought your graphic credibly depicted the Hipster Fashion Cycle. I wrote this brief blog and then added your graphic. A few commenters really liked your well done graphic. As a result, even though most entrepreneurs Scrapbook firmly on cash, there are intelligent and effective ways that can expand your business. Personally, I noticed the greatest effect of my purse nicely, by the rational distribution of the design and sticker free bumper cars followed. Many sites of camera bags, but I can vouch for the quality of a person I Snaptotes pocket. My laptop bag is very colorful and dynamic, and the Ladies Fashion Handbags are very well done. I wish you good luck and hope that my strategies to work for you!
