Heatwave Mixtape: 13 Songs About Taking Off Clothes

With much of the nation engulfed in a heatwave, we’ve been sweating out the past few days, nursing sunburns, and cursing global warming (even if individual fluctuations in temperature can’t exactly be blamed on it). And, since we’ve always got music on the brain, we’ve settled on the perfect soundtrack for the 92-degrees-in-New-York day. In hopes of distracting you from your heat exhaustion, we present this compilation of songs with lyrics about removing clothing. Since there is a veritable subgenre of hip hop devoted to the subject, we had no shortage of material. And we even included some songs that aren’t by Nelly.

Elvis Costello — “Allison”
Key lyrics: “I heard you let that little friend of mine/Take off your party dress”

Prince — “The Ballad of Dorothy Parker”
Key lyrics: “My pants were wet, they came off”

Nelly — “Hot in Herre”
Key lyrics:
Nelly: “It’s gettin’ hot in here/ So take off all your clothes
Lady: “I am gettin’ so hot, I wanna take my clothes off”

Bright Eyes — “Loose Leaves”
Key lyrics:
“So that’s fine, yeah come by, we will take the afternoon off/ We can kiss and undress or if you want just talk”

Morningwood — “Take Off Your Clothes”
Key lyrics: “When I see you baby/ I wanna take off your clothes/ Just rip off your clothes”

Clem Snide — “African Friend”
Key lyrics: “To be exotic and I did pretend/In the backyard to slowly undress/As you pulled the twigs from my hair/That I put there myself I confess”

Gucci Mane — “Shirt Off”
Key lyrics: Uh, the whole song…

Neutral Milk Hotel — “Two-Headed Boy”
Key lyrics: “And in the dark we will take off our clothes/ And they’ll be placing fingers through the notches in your spine”

R. Kelly — “Strip for U”
Key lyrics:
“Tonight I’m gonna pull a switcheroo/ Do you mind if I strip for you?”

Gravy Train!!!! — “Strip 4 Me”
Key lyrics: “Strip for me, why don’t you do it too?/ You may think it’s about you but it’s totally me”

The Birthday Party — “Nick the Stripper”
Key lyrics: “A fat little insect/He’s in his birthday suit”

Weezer — “Undone (The Sweater Song)”
Key lyrics: “If you want to destroy my sweater/Pull this thread as I walk away/Watch me unravel, I’ll soon be naked”

T Pain — “Take Your Shirt Off”

Though I'm not a big fan, that "I like you so much better when you're naked" song by Ida Maria is a natural for this group... "I won't mind if you take off all your clothes Come on, take them off" And of course, there's the classic When The Last Time by Clipse: "When the last time you heard it like this Smoke somethin', drink somethin', get ripped And make the girls in the party just strip"

deee-lite: take off your shirt/i'll take off my bra/love a rub a dub lovin' until you say ahhh...

tweet - Oops, there goes my shirt up over my head.

some deee-light song "take off your pants, I'll take off my top" something like that...

"Summertime Clothes" by Animal Collective - no better song about summer in the city... Sweet summer night and I'm stripped to my sheets Forehead is leaking, my AC squeaks and A voice from the clock says, "You're not gonna get tired" My bed is a pool and the walls are on fire Soak my head in the sink for a while Chills on my neck and it makes me smile but My bones have to move and my skin's gotta breathe ...... It doesn't really matter, I'll go where you feel Hunt for the breeze, get a midnight meal I point in the windows, you point out the parks Rip off your sleeves and I'll ditch my socks We'll dance to the songs from the cars as they pass Weave through the cardboard, smell that trash Walking around in our summertime clothes, Nowhere to go while our bodies glow ....

"First of May" by Jonathan Coulton: Ooh child bring a blanket & I promise I will brush the ants off Ooh child you're gonna like it when we're takin' each other's pants off Outside 'Cuz it's the first of May, first of May Outdoor f----n' starts today So bring your favorite lady Or at least your favorite lay The water's not cold baby dip in your big toe Maybe I'll see you in flagrante delicto Grass below you sky above Celebrate spring with a crazy little thing called F----n' outside

Who cares if you're so poor you can't afford To buy a pair of mod a go-go stretch-elastic pants... There will come a time when you can even Take your clothes off when you dance --Frank Zappa, Mothers of Invention, 1968

Adam Ant. I totally agree with you Stephanie.

We don't have to take our Clothes off To have a good time Oh, no We can dance and party All night And drink some cherry win Uh-huh

I cant believe, life is so complex when i just wanna sit here and watch you undress is this love is this love that I´m feeling?

What?! No "Strip" by Adam Ant? I can think of no better song for the occasion. ;-)
