Connecticut-based carpenter Dalton Ghetti has been creating miniature sculptures out of pencils since he was a kid back in elementary school. “I experimented sculpting with different materials, such as chalk, but one day I had an eureka moment and decided to carve into the graphite of a pencil,” he recently explained to the Telegraph. Most of his intricate pieces — which he whittles using a razor blade, sewing needle, and sculpting knife — take only a few months to complete, but he has spent as long as two and a half years on a sculpture. Ghetti has never sold any of his work.

Dear Flavorwire people, the pencil carving pages fail after page 2. I was just marveling at the insanity only to hit a dead end. so sad.
