Hyperrealistic Paintings of Rainy Day Traffic

[Editor’s note: It’s Thanksgiving, so your Flavorwire editors and writers are taking a much-needed break. We’ll return to our normal publishing schedule tomorrow, but in the meantime, we’ll be revisiting some of our favorite content from the past few months. This post was originally published October 12, 2010.] Gregor Thielker, a hyperrealist painter whose work we spotted on The Swedish Bed, makes the idea of being stuck in your car on a rainy day an aesthetic adventure as opposed to an everyday nuisance. “My most recent paintings and drawings explore the sensation of seeing from a car while driving through the rain,” he explains. “I am fascinated with the constantly changing, yet particular landscapes seen from the car and also the way that the water on the windshield interacts with that landscape.” Click through to view a slideshow of his work, and be prepared to be amazed that you’re not looking at photos.
