Pic of the Day: Bill Murray Digs Up Ghostbusters Gear

Bill Murray was wearing a proton pack when he accepted the “Best Horror Movie” Award on behalf of Zombieland at the 2010 Scream Awards over the weekend. While he has previously stated that a third Ghostbusters film is a myth, according to IMDb, it’s really happening, with Murray joining original cast members Sigourney Weaver, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Annie Potts, and Ernie Hudson. Perhaps this is a sign that Dr. Venkman has finally been won over? We can only hope. [via /Film]

Cool that Bill Murray did this at THIS event. He gets it. Now, I hope the producers get WHY they messed up with Ghostbusters 2. They tried to do the same film. What that film needed to be and what everyone was hoping for was Ghostbusters in Outer Space (with Sigourney Weaver once again kicking alien butt, if indeed alien ghosts have butts). The producers didn't even get the fact this was a retro-kitch franchise and deserved retro-kitch titles worthy of its original. If it came out now Ghostbusters 3D (with a tip of the hat to 1960's version of 13 Ghosts) would work because 3D itself is retro-kitch and presenting the producers a freebie not to mess THIS one up...as long as they got it out into theaters before 3D goes out of style again. What's worse than a 2D movie shoe-horned into a 3D theater? A 3D movie re-packaged for 2D screens. The sad part is that this never became a film series and part 3 is merely a reunion movie reminiscent of the first Star Trek film complete with a limited appeal to the under-30 crowd who stayed away from The Expendables and Red. Though having Bruce Willis show up as a customer claiming he sees dead people and then promptly walking through a wall would be cool even if teens wouldn't get the reference. And has enough time past to have Ackroyd's character come face-to-face with the ghost of John Belushi? Now that's a cameo I want to see.
