There’s something eerie about images of buildings without people in them, be they Yves Marchand and Romain Meffre’s photographs of Detroit’s ruins or this series, by Dutch artist Wijnanda Deroo. Inspired to take pictures of restaurants that reflect a range of neighborhood cultures, ethnicities, and price ranges, Deroo photographed everything from Tavern on the Green (pictured) and The Russian Tea Room to Yonah Schimmel’s Knishes and Papaya Dog — all decked out in vivid colors for the benefit of invisible customers. Inside New York Eateries is on view through January 29th at New York’s Robert Mann Gallery.
