Sacha Baron Cohen Crashes Rally Backing Proposition 8

1

Yet another reason why we love BORAT SACHA BARON COHEN BRUNO. Somewhere in Hollywood BRAD PITT, STEVEN SPIELBERG, KATE CAPSHAW and ELLEN DEGENERES are smiling.

This stunt wasn’t just an altruistic attempt to mock anti-gay protesters (although in that blond wig/buttondown get up, it did). Cohen — who recently caused an uproar during Milan Fashion Week — was shooting a scene for his upcoming movie BRUNO: DELICIOUS JOURNEYS THROUGH AMERICA FOR THE PURPOSE OF MAKING HETEROSEXUAL MALE. The flick is based on his famed gay fashion reporter character.

Universal paid $42.5 million for the rights and it’s currently scheduled for a May 2009 release. Ni-iice.

at least he’s equal-opportunity when it comes to perpetuating stereotypes (my bad, critiquing them by enacting the EXACT same personas someone negatively perpetuating them would use). Sorry, just not a fan or sneaky stereotyping clothed as progressive commentary. Sometimes he falls on the right side of the line, but, especially in Borat, I feel like he often takes the cheap/easy racist/sexist/homophobic joke. Maybe he’d say its done to point out the absurdity of racist assertions, but the dude in front of me at Borat didn’t seem to be reading it that way. He just seemed to think it was funny to make fun of foreigners.
