Forty-five years after the Beach Boys went into the studio to record their long-lost album, Smile, and seven years after Brian Wilson and Van Dyke Parks put out their own version, Brian Wilson Presents Smile, those oft-bootlegged original recordings will finally see official release on EMI. The double album The Smile Sessions is already in process, helmed by engineer Mark Linett and archivist Alan Boyd. An additional, limited-edition box set will include four CDS, two LPs, two vinyl singles, and a book by the Beach Boys historian Dominic Priore. And guess what? The whole band — including Wilson! — is said to be supporting the project. EMI hasn’t announced a release date, which makes us nervous. But really, what can we do but cross our fingers and hope for the best? [via A.V. Club]
