Call it the Flavorpill jinx. We mentioned a little earlier this week that Lady Gaga had a decent sense of humor, but hey, guess what? Maybe we were wrong! Her Gaga-ness certainly didn’t approve of “Perform This Way,” “Weird Al” Yankovic’s parody of “Born This Way” –- which is a shame, because it’s one of the occasionally irritating Yankovic’s most dead-on spoofs of recent years. The song does lampoon Gaga’s legendary sartorial flamboyance -– “I might be wearing Swiss cheese/Or maybe covered with bees/It doesn’t mean I’m crazy/I perform this way” –- but not in an overly mean-spirited way. Still, Gaga didn’t see the funny side, and since Yankovic doesn’t include songs on his albums without permission from the original artist, “Perform This Way” won’t be getting a commercial release. It did, however, appear on YouTube today, with a pointed note at the end of the video: “Had this been released, all proceeds from the sale of the song and video would have gone to the Human Rights Campaign.” Ouch.
