Rate-a-Trailer: Pedro Almodóvar's 'The Skin I Live In'

The Cannes teaser for Pedro Almodóvar’s The Skin I Live In only runs 30 seconds, but it certainly captures our attention. We watch a lithe, masked woman dress for a sword fight, her reclining pose a visual tease on that clichéd shot of a sexy lady rolling on nylons, and then proceed to beat on Antonio Banderas in his gorgeous home. He locks her in. She’s got a knife, and he carries a gun. “I’ll slit my throat and then you’ll have no toy!” she hisses. So, these people are hardly strangers.

Although it certainly looks like an Almodóvar film — check out that stunning, mid-century modern decor — it seems there will be an element of horror to The Skin I Live In. In this adaptation of Thierry Jonquet’s Tarantula, Banderas plays a surgeon who makes new skin for his wife (Elena Anaya) in an attempt to save her life. We greet any new work from Almodóvar with the utmost anticipation, but we’re particularly excited for this one.
