Rate-A-Trailer: ‘The Muppets’

The teaser trailer for The Muppets — cleverly disguised as the trailer for a romantic comedy called Green with Envy — opens with shots of a small-town school teacher, played by the impossibly adorable and bright-eyed Amy Adams, dismissing her students. Standing at her side is a blue-suited Jason Segel, who plays her large-hearted dreamer of a beau (and also helped pen the movie’s script). Then comes a montage of the two looking like a John Mellencamp music video: flannel shirts, wide grins, loving looks, and hope. The couple are headed to Hollywood to follow their dreams of making it big, yet they soon discover that everything isn’t snapshots and starry eyes; there is a fight and an ensuing separation, plunging the clip into familar rom-com territory with a shot of Segel walking alone in the rain and Adams staring up at her ceiling while laying in bed.

That’s when the trailer makes its big reveal — after naming both Segel and Adams as leads, a familiar green face shows on the screen: Kermit the Frog. It’s clear that The Muppets will contain all the beloved characters of our childhood — Miss Piggy, Animal, Gonzo, Sam the Eagle — with plenty of choreographed musical sequences and explosions to keep them busy. Watch it below, and let us know if you’re as ready for Muppet domination come Thanksgiving Day as we are.
