Just this week, Ja Rule turned himself in to start a 2 -year jail sentence connected with a 2007 crime, which has gotten us thinking. Maybe it’s just us, but musicians seem to land themselves in a little bit more trouble than people of other professions. Maybe it’s because they’re living the high life, thinking they can get away with it all, or maybe they’re just negatively influenced by their surroundings, but we think it probably has something to do with the same personality trait that makes them want to be performers in the first place. Just a theory, though. In any event, we were inspired to dig up a few vintage mugshots of famous musicians, many of which are actually quite beautiful in and of themselves, although that could just be Sinatra’s good looks shining through. I’ve often seen the front part of the Sinatra shot on posters and t-shirts &c. Now that I’ve seen the profile I see why it’s never used- Sinatra had an awful profile.
The reason Elvis was allowed to wear sunglasses (unlike anyone else posing for a mugshot) is that it isn’t actually a mugshot, just some clowning around he did at the police station. I don’t think Elvis was ever actually arrested.
David Bowie is well-dressed even when he’s arrested. Incredible.
It would be interesting to know what each was arrested for and at what age (year). And yeah, Elvis was just having some fun at a station for those mugs. He was not arrested for anything.

Prince looks way too stylized to be a real mugshot. The reason why they all look good too is the great old cameras they used to use. The new digital mugshot’s pale in comparison.
