Damon Albarn isn’t one to indulge in much downtime. While he’s made big news lately with the announcement of a Blur reunion, he’s been making more waves this decade with his animated band Gorillaz. Director Ceri Levy was in on the ground floor when Albarn and co-creator Jamie Hewlett (of Tank Girl fame) came up with the band, and spent six years documenting it’s progress. The result is Bananaz, a 90-minute film following the cartoon group’s rapid rise to fame. Online video purveyor Babelgum has the exclusive full-length premiere up now, free to watch ahead of the June 1st DVD release. To help celebrate, we’ve got a full Gorillaz CD/DVD discography to give away. After the jump, check the details to enter, and watch preview clips from the film.
We’ve got a full set of Gorillaz CDs and DVDs — including Gorillaz, Demon Days, G Sides, D Sides, Demon Days Live, and Phase One: Celebrity Takedown — to give away to one lucky winner. To enter, tell us who your favorite real-life Gorillaz guest star is and why. Be sure to use your real email address, so we can notify you if you win; we’ll pick our favorite response to take home the prize.

Well, if I have to choose a guest star and ommit the "recurring characters", then I'd say my favourite performance is Shaun Ryder's on "Dare". Guess the Happy Mondays lynchpin needed a whole bunch of apes to help him get back to the glorious swagger of his early (demon) days…
My personal favourite has to be Zeng Zhen playing the guzheng (no idea if I'm spelling that right) in the live performances of Hong Kong. Totally haunting, and just absurdly beautiful.
Del tha Funkee Homosapien – or is he considered one of the Gorillaz?
Dennis Hopper then. He's unhinged.
hopper, fo sho :)
Ibrahim Ferrer 'cause you know Damon loves his sound and vocals as being a part of his hip-hop/reggae/latin/electro supergroup. And, his vocals sound great with the music created. Thanks for putting this documentary up there – it's v. good.
my favorite would have to be Ibrahim Ferrer because Buena Vista Social Club was huge and it was nice to see Gorillaz go and work with totally unexpected people.
automator
Del tha Funkee Homosapien — He's been one of my all-time favorite MCs since Mista Dobalina. He's an all time hip hop great
Del is great and a real unique delivery. My one complaint would be how little we get to hear from him. Not a lot of output… Dan the Automator is another great – and the opposite situation – he's got tons of stuff out, many projects. Must be fun to be DTA.
I'd say Ike Turner, because he needed to have his ass 'tooned too!
To all the Del fans, you can download his new album for free at http://delthefunkyhomosapien.bandcamp.com!
Bootie Brown on Dirty Harry completely kills it on that track. Not to mention he's got one of the funniest parts in the film, where he has to be buried and pop up dramatically in the sand. It doesn't look pleasant, but was worth it for the finished product!
Hey thanks Doug
good to find that out
Hey hold up! The children's choir from the Parklands School & the Newell Green School with Bootie Brown on Dirty Harry kill it. Check out those two kids throwing it down and breakin' mid song. SICK
