Look Twice at Jiang Pengyi’s Miniature Decaying Urban Landscapes

Share:

Among the hard-scrabble and evocative detritus in Beijing-based artist Jiang Pengyi’s photographs, are entire cityscapes hidden within the rubble and shadows. You really do need to look twice: once to process the photo’s composition and a second time to admire the addition of the miniature cities. The photos are intended as a comment on “the excessive urbanization, redevelopment and demolition in the city of Beijing.” Anyone who has lived through excessive construction within a city understands the suffocating feeling Pengyi’s photos convey. The subtly on display is nothing short of amazing. Here is a sample of our favorite images, with more photos found here.
