Craig Damrauer's Witty Wordplay Series: New Math

Share:

Political and social undertones run rampant through New Math — a collection of witty, definition-granting, math-style equations created by graphic artist Craig Damrauer. The simple, yet incredibly smart, art series explores the nature of common words and phrases in a comical manner, which Damrauer says was his “quixotic attempt to quantify the world.” The clever collection first kicked off back in 2002 at a solo show for New York City’s Move Lab, and has continued ever since with topical equations snarkily defining oil drilling and government parties, and revealing the meaning behind everything from black eyes to modern art to secrets. Check out some of our favorites from Damrauer’s innovative series after the jump.
