New Artworks by John Waters: Preview His 'Rear Projection' Show

Celebrated for his transgressive camp cinema, John Waters has saturated his recent artworks with enough film-themed irony to leave them dripping, just like the slab of ham in his juicy C-print photograph. HAM! Like a bad actor! Tee-hee-hee. His upcoming show¬†Rear Projection at the Arthur Roger Gallery in New Orleans chortles pointedly with digitally altered Hollywood smiles, “little movies” comprised of sequential photographs of TV screens and oversized meta-textual props. Giant “decorative” roach trap anyone? Spinning off the notion of outdated “rear projection” movie effects, whereby action is filmed against a projected, separately shot background, it looks like a worthy, fun show. Flip through our preview gallery and count the movie lingo puns.

Rear Projection runs at the Arthur Roger Gallery from October 1st through the 29th. Waters will leading a walk-through of the exhibition on October 1st at 1pm, with an opening reception later that evening.
